Leonardo Innovációtranszfer projekt (lezárt 2009.10.01-2011.09.30)

SUMMARY
Through its present project, the University of Film and Theatre is MOVING FORWARD on the road it began and reinforced in its previous, successfully concluded project. This too is innovation transfer, which concentrates primarily on TEACHER TRAINING. It concentrates on those concrete areas in which the Faculty of Film‘s disadvantages are significant as compared with the educational standards and dimensions of fellow European academies, and in which areas the domestic film and media professions’ requirements also reinforce the developmental plans: scriptwriting, new media and documentary. Of the chosen territories the first two fields have undergone conscious development recently with significant European (Media) support – the intellectual and material resources invested into this project will be further put to use by the insertion of the achievements of the project into Hungarian film and media education. The development of scriptwriting is the key question of the European film industry. In the field of New media/Visual effect, the Faculty of Film is as yet unprepared for the nurturing of artists capable of true creativity in the language of New Media. Simultaneously creating new, productive adult education formats, the University is attempting to draw the most talented career beginners directly into the QUALITY renovation of the digitalising domestic media world.
The documentary film genre has developed at a tremendous pace throughout the world, as a result of the thematic television channels’ hunger for content. Independent documentary film education is currently missing in Hungary. Through the project, innovation between the industry and the profession’s most significant educational institution, with the greatest history, will be transformed and balanced. The project’s international network of partners was developed through the following reasoning: we chose the London Film School and Den Danske Filmskolent as innovation transferring partners that we got to know through the previous project and because of the exceptional quality of Danish and English film works, owing to their scriptwriting education. The Den Danske Filmskolen is exemplary in the field of new media as well, just like the Lisbon-based Lusofona University with its numerous Media Projects. We have drawn the educational institutions of the Visegrád countries into our teacher training project as well, with the aim that shared development will harmonise our education systems and deepen our cooperation. The Faculty of Film’s above-mentioned teacher training project, concentrating on undeveloped areas, is the final, necessary step towards the reinforcement of its international contacts and of the professional cooperation of teachers, as well as their communications’ skills, substantiating its distant INNOVATION DEVELOPMENT plans.

C.3.1. Why is this project Necessary?
The most important experience of the SZFE’s prior Innovation Transfer project is that the realisation of educational development has two key keys: infrastructural development and the development of teaching. We are stepping forward with the latter in the current project, building upon teachers’ existing ambitions.
Why DOCUMENTARY FILM? There is no independent documentary film course at the University, whereas the area is on an upward slope throughout Europe and is a part of film education in virtually every country. The launching of the course in Hungary aims at professional development. The observations of the documentary film jury of the Film Review (Hungarian Film Awards) and the earlier achieved „New Directions in Documentary Film-making”- workshop’s screening programme and presentations confirm that, although Hungarian documentary films are thematically relevant, in terms of their form, professionalism and ability to hold interest, there is a great gap between the European / American works and Hungarian ones. It is worth studying various, internationally successful authorial attitudes and methods and starting the planned course with the removal of provincialism within the profession. It is necessary to gather materials to help teachers too. A shared, documentary film MA is missing in Europe. Part of the present project aims to survey the possibility of this plan’s accreditation, professional and cooperative realisation.
Why SCRIPTWRITING ? It is a key area as regards the competitiveness of European films, hence why it was included in the Media Programme’s priorities. The domestic profession has caught onto it. (Visegrád Screenwriting Conference, Fade In). Adoptable, up-to-date forms of training have been born with Media support. The University’s lecturers must be prepared for the building-in of achieved course forms and approaches that have proven effective. Tisztázandó, hogy az amerikai tömegfilm által használt forgatókönyvírói standard-ek használhatóak-e, ill. mely részük és hogyan a tradicionálisan artisztikus filmes képzésben.
Why NEW MEDIA? We will prepare our students for the use of digital equipment, digital production processes that are different from earlier ones, the phases of this. The VFX  (digital visual enhancement technology) has made the possibilities of visual achievement virtually boundless. In order to make maximum use of this we must free artists’ fantasies and creativity and further train them. It is questionable whether, besides this, they need only master the technical protocols to a minimum level or higher. The Lusofona University of Lisbon’s completed project within the Media Programme can contribute to domestic students’ clarification at a theoretical level and provide an adaptable pattern in the area of New Media for the updating of education. Through cooperation with Hungarian sub-contracting companies, the necessary technological background knowledge can be implanted, just like the missing infrastructure, which is beyond the institution’s means.
Why „NEW DOCUMENTARY WORKSHOP”? Not only does the course have to accommodate the receiving media industry’s needs, it also has to generate profession-developing processes for the readily available teacher-student potential.

The English professional language development courses will raise the standards of foreign language communication, the lack of which serves as a disadvantage and an obstacle for the older generation of lecturers.

Besides the lecturers representing the Faculty of Film’s creative tradition, all three areas will receive 3-4 successful, young professional, having prepared them for the task of teaching.
